Ouma, Caren Akomo, PhD.
Dr. Caren Ouma is an Associate Professor of Leadership and Management at the United States International-University Africa. She is a Kenyan Organizational Development and Transformation expert, gender expert, curricula development and training specialist, Policy and Strategy formulation and development expert, with over 24 years of professional experience. She has participated in various strategy formulation and development for various organizations and implemented institutional self-assessment, needs assessments and developed training materials in the fields of agriculture, agri-business, value chain development, trade, health as well as gender research in Kenya, Somalia, Ethiopia, Sudan, South Sudan, Uganda, Rwanda, Tanzania, and Djibouti. Dr. Ouma holds Ph.D. in Organisational Development and Transformation as well as a Master’s of Business Administration and a Bachelor’s degree in Commerce. She is fluent in written and spoken English and Kiswahili. She poses long-standing experience as industry researcher, consultant and team leader in various internationally funded projects in Strategy development, Policy formulation and development, Training Needs Assessment, curriculum development, development of training Manuals, M&E including baseline, midline & endline surveys and reviews, ToTs, and coaching and mentoring diverse groups of business and entrepreneurs, and ATVET and non-ATVET participants. All these activities have been done for various development partners including, but not limited to; World Bank, GIZ, the UN such as FAO as well as international NGOs, Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, GFA Consulting Group in Germany, Oxfam, IGAD, EU, USAID, AUC, Corporate organizations, National and international Universities among many others. Professionally, Caren has published over 50 peer reviewed research papers, some books, case studies, learning modules, and papers presented in conferences and workshops which are used within higher level learning institutions and community development areas and supervised to completion 15 PhD students and mentored over 100 Ph.D students. Supervised to completion over 100 graduate students and mentored over 500 graduate students. She has participated in the development and review of several University undergraduate, graduate and doctoral course programs. She serves in various professional bodies, such as: Life Member of The Academy of Business And Retail Management (ABRM), Editorial Board Member of International Peer Reviewed Journal And Books (IPRJB), Member of The United States International University-Africa Eastern Africa Multidisciplinary Applied Research Conference Review Committee, Member of Board of Governors (BOG)-Marist International University College (MIUC) 2017 to date, Member of Doctoral Association of Eastern Africa (DAEA), National Advisory Group Member for International Labour Organization (ILO), external examiner-St. Pauls graduate students research projects, External Examiner-Dar es Salaam University in Tanzania, external examiner PAC university, external examiner Adventist University of Africa, presenter in Wells Mountain Initiative (WMI) entrepreneurship series for 2021, Member of Institutional Research Board (IRB)-United States International University-Africa.
